The sheer scale of World War 2

We all know that World War II was a massive undertaking, but just how big was it? Check out this online map that shows the number of sunken ships. Open it on your desktop and you can click on the individual ship to learn more about it.

The image is a world map showing the distribution of blue and red dots across major continents and oceans. The blue dots are predominantly clustered around Europe, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic coasts of North America and South America, and coastal Africa. The red dots are heavily concentrated across eastern Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia, especially around China and Japan. Landmasses such as North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia are clearly visible. No specific landmarks, brands, or recognizable public figures are present in the image.
