What is Commanders Coalition?
A place for Veteran leaders to connect online and in person.
To share best practices affecting Veteran Service Organizations
Who can join Commanders Coalition?
Active Duty, Guard, and/or Reserve troops as well as Honorably Discharged Veterans who are serving or have served in a Veteran organization
Why should I join Commanders Coalition?
If you are new officer in a Vet organization, come and learn from experienced leaders who can teach you how to excel in your position.
If you have years of experience serving in a Vet organization, share your knowledge with the next generation of Veteran leaders. Iron sharpens Iron
When does Commanders Coalition meet?
Meetings vary by outpost. Currently the only operational outpost is located in Tallahassee, FL and they meet the 1st Wednesday of the month at 10AM. See the national website for more information. www.commanderscoalition.org
Do I have to buy a new uniform (cover) to join?
No. Members wear the uniform(cover) of their respective organizations and follow the customs and courtesies of said organizations.
How much are the dues?
Thanks to our amazing community partners, Commanders Coalition does not currently charge dues for membership.
Who can post on the forums?
Any Veteran member of Commanders Coalition can post and respond to threads on the forum. We encourage members to create threads and have discussions about anything affecting the Veteran community.
How are members recognized within the organization?
All members qualify based on an honorable discharge and verified service in a Veteran organization.
Upon joining, members are assigned to groups according to their branch of service—not their affiliated Veterans Service Organization (VSO). This structure ensures that VSO affiliation never becomes a barrier to professional development or participation.
Are you a registered nonprofit with the IRS?
Our registration is currently pending approval.
Why does Commanders Coalition have its own uniform(cover)?
Many of our members belong to multiple Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), which is a strength we celebrate. To clearly distinguish our coalition from other groups, we introduced an optional service cap featuring the Commanders Coalition emblem.
Wearing the cap is entirely voluntary—even some of our national officers choose not to wear one. One nice thing about a Coalition Cover is our bylaws explicitly allow members to wear pins earned through other Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs).
Whether you’ve led in the American Legion, AMVETS, VFW, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, Marine Corps League, or any other Vet organization, you can represent all your affiliations and achievements while visibly connecting to our coalition. It’s a simple, meaningful way to honor your full record of service.
Does America really need another Vet organization?
Veteran Service Organizations are facing tough times: membership is dropping across the board, and some towns have no local VSO presence at all.
That’s where a Commanders Coalition outpost makes a real difference. It gives every VSO a way to stay active and visible in underserved areas—bringing together leaders from the American Legion, AMVETS, VFW, DAV, and beyond to host monthly meetings, provide resources, and connect with Veterans who need support most.
Our outposts aren’t about replacing existing groups; they’re about strengthening them.
I’ve never joined a Veteran organization, can I join Commanders Coalition?
No. However, we will provide you a list of Veteran organizations you are qualified to join.
How can I start a Commanders Coalition Outpost in my city?
Contact us and we will provide you with a step by step guide to get your monthly meetings underway.
