Yesterday’s Legal Clinic at American Legion Sauls Bridges Post 13 hosted 16 Veterans and family walking in, (plus 3 other calls) ; several Veterans volunteered with set up, intakes, etc. even though their court-ordered community service requirements have already been completed ( Shane, Charles, Khalid, Gregory). In all, our Legal Clinic Volunteer Team totaled 18, including 6 pro bono attorneys in person and another two by phone/email. Khalid, Charles, Leonard Bell drove to Quincy and delivered food to several locations around Tallahassee again Wednesday, including Vet Village (see photos)

CHANGE OF DATE FOR VETERANS COURT GRADUATION: NOV 24, 3 PM. The next Leon County Veterans Treatment Court session is Monday, October 20, 3 pm in the downtown Courthouse, Courtroom 2E. Please consider coming to observe/ maybe becoming a Veteran Mentor for the Vets working their way through the program and recovery. Several Veterans are finalizing plans to graduate November 24. TVLC also added a comprehensive legal research tool recently for our VA-accredited attorneys in order to more thoroughly assist in questions about VA benefits. We’re still waiting for two more attys to be accredited, but VA is taking its time, especially in the shutdown now!

The Commanders Coalition met again with nearly 50 participants Wednesday, including a majority of TVLC Board members; a subsequent vote of the entire board resulted in TVLC officially joining the new national Commanders Coalition entity. Congratulations to Ed Hood, our initial and founding National Commander.

THIS MONDAY featured Graduation Ceremonies at the Leon County Veterans Treatment Court, where three Army Veterans (Terrance Lee, Tameka Colon, and Reginald Walker) successfully were honored by Judge LaShawn Riggins, Keynote Judge Lance E Neff, and celebrated by the entire Courtroom and team. In addition, Khalid Shafi was specially recognized for a FDVA/FVF Medallion presented by longtime lobbyist and leader in the Florida Dept of Veteran Affairs, Roy Clark. As has become custom, our Tallahassee graduates were fortunate to also receive FDVA/FVF Medallions. See photo, Khalid and his medallion, addressing the Veterans in the program.

Also Monday morning, American Legion Post 13 Commander Dennis Hall was interviewed on the Greg Tish radio show and gave kudos to TVLC for our weekly clinics over the past 8 years, and announced the upcoming Poker Run. Thanks, Sir!

Last month’s fundraiser at the Community Co-op raised us some $700 and we appreciate all who “rounded up” their purchases for TVLC during July.

Last Wednesday, the Commanders Coalition again hosted dozens of Veteran leaders; several TVLC Board members participated, featuring Gordon Lightfoot, who co-chaired the meeting with founder John Folsom (Gordon is key in Tallahassee area Am Vets, Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc., volunteering in constant service to our community). Yesterday featured several Veterans volunteering, even though their
